Never Kuzhuk Qalli thought of leaving his tribe to marry a woman before. Let alone a woman who’d make him stay inside of the yurt doing house chores. Yet, Khorijin Dazkar, a fierce huntress, had set her aim to his heart, and she wouldn’t stop until Kuzhuk allowed her into his arms. Her “songbird” found a new home among the Dazkari Xaela, besides learning from their men how to tend of the family.From their love, a girl named Soyolmaa was born, carrying a name that’d mean ‘woman of the arts’, chosen by her caring father. Khorijin gave him the privilege of choosing, since it was her husband who’d take care of the child while she hunted. “Soyo”, she was called by most of her tribe, but “Nightingale” was a nickname affectionately given by her father. A tiny little bird, she was. As sheepish as the said animal, Soyolmaa was a timid child that struggled to find her own voice.In an environment that only the stronger would thrive, the little Dazkar had to force herself out of her shell as a matter of survival. Swallowing up her insecurities, Soyo began to build an outgoing persona to herself while mingling among the other huntresses of her tribe. Loud, meddlesome, arrogant. Ready to point an arrow to whoever questioned her strength. In her core, all Soyolmaa wanted was to be accepted and respected; showing her vulnerabilities wasn't an option. “Gashuun” became her third alias, meaning bitter.When alone, the nightingale began her song, like the males of said bird used to do – singing, playing her morin khuur or the vargan. Sometimes, her father even joined her with the art of khoomei, encouraging Soyolmaa to open her heart and to release her feelings. It was Kuzhuk who taught his daughter on how to play the instruments and to open her wings when expressing emotions through songs.Alone or by her father’s side, she’d find freedom. From the shackles Soyo had put on herself, from her duties as a huntress. Khorijin, despite being busy, tried her best to pass all the Dazkar values to her offspring – no love was spared either, although in the mother’s rather rough way of expressing it.Still a young lass, Soyolmaa has much to learn yet. She is, with no doubt, a tough girl from the Steppes, polished to become a great huntress and a master of the bow and arrows art. But her core still lacks the comprehension that sweetness and care aren’t signs of weakness, and that she can allow herself to feel shy if she isn’t comfortable enough with new people around. With a whole world unfolding around Soyo, her learning is just beginning – and she can’t wait to understand more about her own self.
